Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park lies in southwestern Uganda within the Virunga Mountains. Though small at only 33 square kilometres, it is rich in scenery and wildlife. The park protects mountain gorillas and golden monkeys, making it an important destination for a safari in Uganda.
Visitors trek through bamboo forests and volcanic slopes to find a gorilla family. The scenery of volcanoes adds a special touch to the experience.
Golden monkeys are playful and colourful primates found in the bamboo zone. Tracking them offers a lively wildlife encounter.
Hiking trails lead up Mount Sabinyo, Mount Gahinga, and Mount Muhabura, giving breathtaking views across Uganda, Rwanda, and Congo.
The dry seasons from June to September and December to February are best for trekking because trails are less muddy.
Mgahinga is reached by road from Kampala via Kisoro town. Flights to Kisoro airstrip provide quicker travel.
