7 Days Uganda Birding Tour – Birding in Uganda

Day 1: Airport Pickup and transfer to Kampala

On your arrival, you will be received by our representative. He will transfer you to your booked hotel in the capital, Kampala. You can there rest the long flight off to get yourself fresh for the coming day’s’ activities.

Day 2: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

On day 2, you head out of Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park, after your very early breakfast, to beat the heavy morning traffic. On the way, you have a quick stop at the Uganda equator for photos or to buy some souvenirs. After, you have lunch en route to Mbarara town and then head southwest to the stunning Western Rift Valley. You will arrive in the evening, check in and then head out to go for a thrilling game drive in the park. Return in time for dinner and then settle down for the overnight stay.

7 Days Uganda Birding Tour, birding UgandaDay 3: Game drive & Boat ride

Start the day with a hot beverage before heading out by 6:30am for a game drive through the park. It offers exceptional game viewing and also gives a lot of birders an experience with a number of different bird. You will drive through the large open grass plains which are habitat to huge flocks of White Stork and the amazing Saddle-Billed Stork.

Head back to the lodge/ hotel for your lunch. Then you’ll take an exciting boat launch to see hundreds of hippopotamus and elephants with several migratory birds, like Grey-headed gulls, African-skimmers, Pink & white-backed pelicans, Mourning dove and the Water Dikkops in tow. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

You transfer to Lake Bunyonyi, known as the “Little Switzerland of Uganda”. You will wake up, have breakfast and then check out of the hotel / lodge. On arrival, marvel at Lake Bunyonyi, Uganda’s deepest lake. On a clear day, you will catch sight of the volcano; Mt Muhavura.

Day 5: Islands Visit with an afternoon Nature Walk

After breakfast, you’ll hire a local canoe to explore the environs on water as you go towards the various small Islands. You return later for lunch and then head to Mukoni Village for more bird watching, passing small farms on your way. You may see close to 50 diverse bird species on this walk, among them the Swamp Flycatcher, African Hobby, Bronze-chested Sun bird, Scarlet-chested, the White-headed Saw-wing and Red-chested Sun birds, Black Kite. You will head back to the lodge for dinner and then call it a day.

Day 6: Head Back to Kampala

The final day at Lake Bunyonyi means that you will have breakfast and then check out. You’ll have lunch en route to Kampala during the drive and arrive in the afternoon. You’re then dropped off at the accommodations used at the beginning of your safari.

Day 7: Brief City tour with Airport Drop off

Today you will wake up to some amazing breakfast and then check out of the hotel as you will not be returning from your brief city tour. You will have lunch and then have a drop off to the airport for your return flight back home.

Alternatively, go chimpanzee trekking (payable by client) in Kyambura gorge. Hiking the gorge’s steep slopes in search of chimps is a challenging task but the encounter will stay with you forever. After the 2 – 5 hours, you’ll then embark on the transfer to Kampala.

Visa requirements for Uganda

With effect from July 1, 2015, visa fees for entry into Uganda were revised as follows:

❭❭ Government Officials         No fee
❭❭ Diplomatic Visa                   No fee

Please note:

All visa applications must be submitted online. Paper applications will not be processed and may result in delays.

Visa applications for holders of passports:

  1. Submit an online application here.
  2. Your passport must have been valid for at least 6 months from the date of travel and for 6 months after your expected departure from Uganda.
  3. You will need to submit a money order for the correct visa from the list above.
  4. You will need to submit a letter of invitation/introduction if you are travelling for business.
  5. You are required to present an international inoculation certificate against yellow fever at the point of entry in Uganda.
  6. Please enclose a prepaid, self-addressed UPS, FEDEX, DHL,USPS Priority or Express return envelope with your application. Regular envelopes are not accepted.

Visa applications for holders of travel documents

Holders of travel documents (not passports) issued by the U.S. Immigration Department to refugees are required to submit the following in addition to the above requirements.

  1. An invitation from the host legally residing in Uganda.
  2. A letter obtained by the host from the local authorities (e.g. Local Council Chairman) confirming he/she resides in that locality.
  3. A copy of the host’s photo ID such as a drivers licence, national ID card or passport.
