Rwenzori Mountains National Park
Rwenzori Mountains National Park is located in western Uganda along the border with Congo. It covers about 1,000 square kilometres and protects Africa’s third highest mountain range. The park is famous for snow-capped peaks, glaciers, and unique plant life.
Multi-day hikes lead to Margherita Peak, offering challenging but rewarding adventures for experienced hikers.
Lower trails provide easier walks where visitors can enjoy waterfalls, forest scenery, and rare birds.
Local community visits introduce travellers to traditional lifestyles around the mountains.
January to February and June to August are considered the best time to visit Uganda for mountain hiking due to clearer weather.
The park is accessed by road from Kampala through Kasese town, or by flights to Kasese airstrip.
