Uganda marks 55 years of independence

October 9, 1962, is an important day for Uganda. It is the day she gained independence from the British rule. Today, we mark 55 years as a free nation, under the theme , “Uganda’s freedom must be anchored in the spirit of hard work, resilience and commitment.”

Uganda is a very beautiful country. She was described as the Pearl of Africa by Sir Winston Churchill . The country’s endowments and attractions range from the animals and plants to the diverse bird species, some of which are not found anywhere else in the world.
Since peace and stability returned in this country, there has been an increase in wildlife species. Among some of the species that have registered an increase are the elephants and buffalos, gorillas, and kobs. The elephant population is reported to have increased from only 2,000 in 1983 4,322 in 2006 and the last census in 2014 the population is estimated at 5,346. In 1992, Buffalos were 25,000 but today we are talking of almost 37,000,”
These figures are proof that the country’s conservation efforts are bearing fruits and also makes Uganda must-go-to country to see this beautiful wildlife.
