World Tourism Day – 2017
Tomorrow, all roads and waterways lead to Kalangala District where the World Tourism day 2017 celebrations will be held at the Golf Course, Lutoboka, Ssese Islands (Buggala) with the theme, “Sustainable Tourism – A tool for Development”.
There will be weeklong activities from 22nd – 27th September 2017, giving an opportunity to the people of Ssese, greater Masaka and the country at large to showcase the various tourism attractions and activities, like water rafting, across the Islands.
The World Tourism Day (WTD) is internationally commemorated every 27th of September as a way of bringing people together to reflect on the importance and benefits that accrue from tourism.
This year’s event will be flagged off with #Tulambule – Ssese Islands (22nd – 26th Sept), a domestic tourism promotion campaign aimed at encouraging Ugandans to tour places around Uganda in order to become Uganda’s tourism ambassadors themselves.
Among other activities, there shall be: –
– a boat regatta (boat race competitions)
– swimming competitions
– Other water & beach sports
– Miss Tourism Uganda (unveiling of national contestants)
– Ssese Islands wild run
– Islands & tourist site visits
– Training forums & workshops
– Camp fire (ekyoto)
UTB will closely work with the Ministry of Tourism, Uganda Wildlife Authority, Uganda Wildlife Education Center, Civil Aviation Authority and the Hotel and Tourism Training Institute to organize the activities.
